EDITOR’S NOTES.

The General Assembly.

The Assembly has passed, with general

feeling of satisfaction that it was “good”—

though the weather during the first week

was not very inspiring. The new Moderator,

the Right Rev. Gordon McAlpine, was dulv

installed on the first night (a very wet one).

We were all very sorry that serious illness

debarred him from aimost all the remaining

sessions. The ex-Moderator, Rev. H. J. Hill-

man, 8.A., ably took his place, and with his

experience of the past year, the business was

carried through without any lag. We thank

Mrs. Hillman, too, for her help, which was

acceptable to Mrs. McAlpine, and wish for

the Moderator speedy restoration to health

and happy year of office for both him and

Mrs. McAlpine.

The evening demonstrations were very fine

the inauguration of the Victory Thanks-

giving Fund jm-Thursday, the Welfare of

Youth Demonstration on Saturday the

Foreign Mission on Monday, both with

crowded-out house, and Social Service on

Tuesday. The. Thanksgiving Fund has made

good beginning, and commends itself to all

loyal Presbyterians, since its purpose is to

help all Church organisations Home and
