Fix this textSpeech by the PrimeJ 4 liii S ter. the. Ht^Hon^ MT-Robert KemXm
Fix this textSir «
Fix this textI don*t mind telling you I am speaking this afternoon
Fix this textwith one advantage and with a couple of disadvantages· The
Fix this textone advantage is that at dinner-time last night, I polled my
Fix this textfull majority (Applause) and therefore I ha ven* t had to endure
Fix this textthe mortification of being referred to here either as “the
Fix this textex-Prime Minister", "the former Prime Minister" or, as people
Fix this textsometimes say with a touch of graveyard humour, "the late
Fix this textPrime Minister." (Laughter)
Fix this textSo here I am. as you might say, all present and
Fix this textcorrect. From ay point of view, a singular advantage, but
Fix this textwhether it is from yours, I wouldn't like to say. But the
Fix this textdisadvantages are two at least. One is that I have a splendid
Fix this textdaylight view of the boys, most of whom are looking a bit
Fix this textgrim, and I would be too in their pia ce | and the other is
Fix this textthat except for the front row, I can't see you at all.(Laughter)
Fix this textYou are shrouded in darkness* Men, of course, loving the
Fix this textdarkness because their deeds are evil. (Laughter) And so that
Fix this textis a disadvantage. I always like to be $ble to see the audience.
Fix this textYou satisfy yourself that you have one if you can see it.
Fix this text(Laughter)
Fix this textAnother disadvantage is that Mr. Robson, this most
Fix this textfamous person, connected so eloquently with this marvellous
Fix this textindustrial fund, has developed a habit of haunting me.
Fix this text(Laughter) I have been to two or three of these things and
Fix this texteach time I look around uneasily, I see Mr. Robson, Mr. Charles
Fix this textBooth (who used to be an old friend of mine) and Hr. Trigg,
Fix this textand they sit there - Robson does the talking, the others do
Fix this textthe applauding (Laughter) and although I don't mind hearing
Fix this textwhat he has to say four times (Laughter), he must be completely
Fix this textfed up now with listening to me. Fortunately for me, I can't
Fix this textremember what I said on the former occasions and therefore
Fix this textI will do my best to overcome this handicap.
Fix this textBut, really, this is a marvellous event. I must
Fix this textconfess, as your Heącłmaster has told you, that on more than
Fix this textone occasion, as a result of being driven rapidly along the
Fix this textstreet outside, I have said to him, "How do you get them all
Fix this textin?" This is vary true. I have. I have said it. And I
Fix this textstill don't know, but they are here and that, I think, is
Fix this texta very good thing for Sydney and a very good thing for
Fix this textAustralia.
Fix this textNow, I want to confess to you that my claims to
Fix this textspeak about science are extremely sketchy. When I was a
Fix this textschoolboy, I had an inordinately good memory. I was the kind
Fix this textof fellow who gets through examinations rather easily, you see -
Fix this textexcept in science or mathematics. And when it came to these
Fix this textbranches of learning, which I never succeeded in understanding,
Fix this textI used to learn the book by heart, and as I once said in the
Fix this textpresence of Mr. Robson, I always got fifty as a result,
Fix this texthalf and half » theory , practice. Fifty percent. That was
Fix this text/2
Fix this textIt's easy and takes two shakes of a lamb's tail!
