Fix this textThere is one very important point in the schedule

Fix this textnewspapers on newsprint rationing. The percentage cut in news-
Fix this textprint in the newspaper schedule is greater than the cut proposed
Fix this textand put into operation by the Government for all newspapers
Fix this textwith less than 80 pages per week. Thereafter the cut becomes
Fix this textless. The effect is, therefore, to improve the position of the
Fix this textmetropolitan press largely at the expense of the country press.
Fix this textThis is an important matter for the Government, because it would
Fix this textinevitably lead to considerable volume of protest from the
Fix this textcountry press. In view of the differences of opinion about
Fix this textall this and of the feeling of the Sydney Morning Herald that it
Fix this texthas been specially penalised, it might be a very good thing to
Fix this textappoint some form of commission to investigate the position,
Fix this textand to deal with the effect of rationing on the finances of the
Fix this textnewspapers.
