My dearest Alice  

Your postal card to hand hope for long letter tomorrow. Have been mustering all  

week and grub very low. Fee! very much tempted to run down and see you but must  

stick to this bit now.  

have invitation to another dance at Mrs Kinliside Jnr’s place. No hope of going  

would not take much interest in it.  

will take run out west from this time next week may hear of place out there there  

are many estates being sold up and government will advance £95 per amount of  

purchase monies one ought to be able to finance on that.  

was thoroughly down hearted over my losses but feel more like having go at it  

again now think the less get to eat the better feel. Following is my diet scale last  

two days Tuesday. No morning tea, breakfast plate of porridge and scrap of bacon  

no butter etc. Lunch thin slices dry bread and one chop cooked on coals in bush.  

Tea one egg and bread and jam. Wednesday breakfast same as Tuesday lunch  

bread and bacon cooked on coals in bush. Tea lambs frysaid iamb being killed at  

four o’clock. Well know it seems poor stuff to complain at little hardship but when  

one is hungry the subject somehow keeps getting uppermost in one’s mind.  

Susan is becoming quite treasure she works away out ahead of sheep now and  

seems to be very intelligent. Dan is rather cross to bear he will rush the sheep and  

bite them am afraid Dan will stop bullet one day but he may come right. Susan  

was an awful little ass as pup.  

hope you will send me long letter tomorrow you have no idea how rush the mails  

every second day. The mare hit me against tree and am lame will be very sore  

tomorrow expect but have been very lucky with my horses so far as the ground is  

very boggy and full of old rabbit holes. There is hardly rabbit to be seen now thank  

goodness.  

Well old girl will close this now am too tired at night to write sensible letter. With  

much love to you and the little ones
