Moascar

13 November 1918

My dearest daughter Grace

hope this letter will reach you about Christmas time and will find you

well and happy. The war in really over at last and the only thing now is

for old Daddy and Mummy to get back as soon as they can. It is sure

to be some months before we leave, but that can not be helped, there

are so many troops to go.

thought there would be great doings here when peace was declared

but it was the quietest night can remember on such an occasion. The

French people waved their flags and one English lady blew one whistle

and think that was all the excitement. Your mother and played

bridge with young Colonel of the Flying Corps who had lost leg

flying and broken the other leg while trying to walk with crutch so he

had been through some rough times. He has been very brave flyer

and has got DSO and bar to it which mean that we earned it twice,

also other decorations. Your mother is taking over the management of

big tea room for the troops and she will have her hands very full for

awhile. It is winter her now, very dark and cold in the mornings and

very warm and nice at midday. got couple of curios for you and Mr

Hugh while was away at the battle in Jordan Valley but will bring them

with us as the last lot we sent you went tot the bottom of the sea to my

great grief. hope to find you quite big girl when get back and will

take on to teach you and Mr Hugh some tennis and so on. get very

little tennis here now.

have nothing to send from me for Xmas so am enclosing an order on

Aunt Bessie to give you little money to get Xmas box for yourself

and with much love and hope that we will soon meet again.

Your affectionate father

AB Paterson
