The importance of maintaining the closest possible  

ties within the Empire cannot be emphasised too atrongly or too  

frequently in the present disturbed state of the world.  

The Australian Government, which am honored to lead,  

was elected only few months ago on clearly-defined policy.  

This policy provides for the utmost collaboration with  

Great Britain and the other British countries as first practical  

contribution to the success of the United Nations, In short, we  

regard closer integration of the British countries as first  

essential.  

Our policy was endorsed by the great majority of  

Australians, These people evidenced their belief in free way  

of life. They had had more than enough of Socialism They made  

it clear that they rejected foreign doctrines which are the very  

negation of everything for which the British Empire stands.  

Having been entrusted with the responsibility of  

government, we are determined to exert our efforts to attain the  

maximum degree of Empire co-operation and unity in relation to all  

matters of mutual concern. In this connection, feel could not
