MR. MENZIES/

Hazel and think that there might he some

further reductions in the amount shown for your personal

account.

In "Advances" the £100 was an advance in your

name for tips from Prime Ministers' Conference delegation.

This should come out. The Austrian advance, counted as

£100A. should he only £80A,

In "Accommodation and Gratuities" the Australian

accounts should he removed. These are recoverable. The

Bonn £108 represents tips paid hy Embassy for whole party,

and we think should come, out. The London £227 should he

reduced by £127 official expenses, and the Cairo £125,

representing payment to Cutler for staging the conference

should come out. The sHirer photo frames should, of course,

come out. As against this there are advances of £10 and

£17 in Paris and Colombo respectively to go in, and £75

being payment for the Cairo cocktail party.

The overall result is £6,236 as against

departmental estimate of £6,716, The returns from your

letter of credit and travellers cheques will reduce this

still further.
