NEWS

Print Post Publication No. PP331088/00007

Vol. No.

June 1994

Explorer v.2 released

VMUG’s Shareware Catalogue is now as

close as your desktop!

The second edition of VMUG’s

Shareware catalog on disk, Explor-

er, was released last month.

It provides an excellent guide to

hundreds of tried and proved PD

and shareware programs. Many of

them were reviewed in VMUG News

up to the end of 1993, and have

since been added to Explorer as

part of the upgrade.

It comes on an easy-to-navigate

Hyper Card stack, with an ac-

companying printed guide to help

you get started.

Nick Crook, who prepared the

Explorer software catalogue, ex-

plained, “Amongst the new features

in this stack is new Font section

that will allow you to see the entire

alphabet of particular font, the PD

from 1993 and the three new cat-

agories, Apple Software, Demos and

Updates. There has been

vast increase in the

Games category.

“Although we have

tested all the PD listed in

this stack there are obvi-

ous limitations. What

may work well for re-

viewer running Mac SE

with few extensions

may not work with

Quadra 840 AV, let alone

Power Mac.”

Almost all the software has been

tested with System 7.0 or 7.1, so

VMUG is confident that these pro-

grams work on most configurations.

large number of programs which

did not perform adequately or

correctly were discarded.

Feedback sought...

Nick said, “Please let us know

Explorer Shareware Catalog interface

what you think of the stack whether

it is good, bad or indifferent. We are

particularly interested in any im-

provements that you would like to

see. You can bring them along to

meetings or send them to the club

via our address.”

The stack is packed with useful

information on whole range of

programs, tested by VMUG mem-

bers. Among the categories are

screen savers, fonts, anti-virus soft-

ware, utilities, personal organisers

and many, many others.

The software in the stack has
