Scope and Contents

The papers are made up of a combination of documents, business records, correspondence, photographs and printed ephemera from and about the properties of Diana Baillieu's ancestors in Western Victoria; clippings, family history research material (some originals and many photocopies), printed ephemera, and correspondence among members of Diana Baillieu's generation. Interspersed among the papers are documents, correspondence, printed ephemera relating to Waltzing Matilda and specifically Christina Macpherson's role in introducing A.B.Paterson to the tune for the song.

Enclosing a typed letter from him to the editor of 'The Fusilier' at the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, H.M.Tower of London. In that letter he contends that 'The Bold Fusilier' tune is a parody of the Waltzing Matilda tune.

RM recommends that now they've completed the ABC Big Country documentary Diana Baillieu and Joan Macrae should register copyright of Waltzing Matilda in the USA. He further suggests they should then sign over the rights to him. He says he doesn't want to make money out of the rights but wants the rights to help with a Waltzing Matilda project. He claims that he registered the Bartlam (Tasmania) manuscript in the U.S. He says he can't get rights from the AB Patterson estate and claims 'Banjo's' daughters have (on film) credited Christina Macpherson for the manuscript.
