PBICE:

TWO SHILLINGS

MONTHLY

Vol. 36

No. 212

April 11, 1925

MEMORIALS

Registered at the

G.P.O. Sydney, for

transmission by post

as newspaper

QUEEN’S COLLEGE, MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY.

When the Gothic revival took place in England the style rapidly became insincere, and

buildings like the Law Courts, in the Strand, were erected in the style without any rhyme

or reason, or suitability of expression; but such mistake is not often made in present-

day erections. This portioin of the University buildings shows at least one happy

interpretation of the old Tudor Gothic, and has graceful dignity of its own. The

vaulting is particularly good, and the vista of the rest of the building, with its pleasant

counrt relieved with shrubs and flowers, creates scene of harmony and repose. The lamp

adds sympathetic note to the general design.
