Introduction
Scope and Contents
Material in the Australian performing arts programs and ephemera (PROMPT) collection consists of programs and related items of Yvonne Minton including various concert programs of her performances.
Yvonne Fay Minton CBE (born 4 December 1938) is an Australian-born but mostly British-resident opera singer. She originally studied voice while on a scholarship at the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music, and won several singing competitions including the National Eisteddfod in Canberra, the Shell Aria in 1960, and the Kathleen Ferrier Prize for the best contralto at the International Vocalist Competition at 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands in 1961. She became one of the country's leading contraltos, often appearing on radio and television and with the Sydney and Queensland orchestras before leaving Australia in 1961 to pursue her studies in London. She joined the Royal Opera, Covent Garden in 1965, and had a splendid career with that company. She also appeard in the major European houses, at the Bayreuth and Salzberg Festivals as well as the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and Chicago Lyric Opera. She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to music in 1980 (includes information supplied by Karl Levett, 2014).
The list is based on imperfect holdings and is updated over time as gaps in the Library's holdings are filled.
