Scope and Contents
Material in the Australian performing arts programs and ephemera (PROMPT) collection consists of programs and related items of Susan Kessler including various concert programs of her performances.
Australian mezzo-soprano, Susan Kessler was born in Sydney to a family of Polish extraction and studied psychology at University before studying music at the New South Wales Conservatorium. She came to Europe in 1974 and two years after making her British debut, she won the first Benson and Hedges Gold Award at Aldeburgh. In 1979 she took part in Sir Robert Mayer's 100th birthday concert in the presence of the Royal Family and in 1980 made an extended tour of Australia giving recitals and orchestral concerts. In 1981, she made her debut in Israel, returning for Mahler's Third Symphony under Gary Bertini. She died from a heart attack at her home in London on 11 March 1992.
