Introduction
Scope and Contents
The collection comprises three distinct parts. The first, being papers relating to Reid's biography of Charles Perkins, was donated in 1991. It consists of correspondence, press cuttings, contractual negotiations, photographic orders, reviews, photographs and drafts relating to the biography. The second part consists of papers relating to Long time, olden time.

Provenance
The original consignment of papers was donated in 1994 and consists of correspondence, photographs, maps, notes and corrected drafts, as well as the book, 3 audio tapes (with master reels) and CD-Rom. In February 1998 a further donation of draft manuscripts and correspondence documenting Read's study Returning to nothing was added to the collection.
A copy of Peter Read's Ph.D. thesis A history of the Wiradjuri people of New South Wales, (ANU 1983) is also held in the Manuscript Section (MS 1021). Most of Read's original tape recordings of the 150 interviews he recorded with Charles Perkins and his contemporaries in the course of researching the Perkins biography are held in the National Library's Oral History Section. Six 10" master audio reels held in Oral History at TRC 3403.
