Introduction
Scope and Content
The papers comprise mainly subject files and correspondence files dealing with Klugman's wide range of public interests and especially his concern for Aboriginal rights, migrant welfare, civil rights and health and welfare matters. There are files relating to his positions as Shadow Minister for Health and Veterans' Affairs and Shadow Minister for Science and Administrative Services, as well as files maintained while a member of various parliamentary committees including the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence and the Joint Select Committee on Electoral Reform. Other files relate to the Australian National University Committee, and conferences and committees of the ALP.

Biographical Note
Richard Emanuel Klugman was born on 18 January 1924 in Vienna, Austria, arriving in Australia in 1938. He was educated at Hurlstone Agricultural High School and the University of Sydney, graduating with Bachelors of Medicine, Surgery and Science (Hons). Klugman held the seat of Prospect, NSW, in the House of Representatives for the Australian Labor Party in 1969-90.
