The New South Wales

Aborigines' Advocate.

Issued UNDER THE \A US PICES OF THE If

>2e OR C/NE

Monthly Record of Missionary Work amongst the Aborigines.

No. 77

Registered as Newspaper for

Transmission by Post.

November 30, 1907.

In Brief.

Monthly Pbayer Meeting is held in one of the

Class Rooms at St. Barnabas' Church on the First

Saturday of each month, at p.m.j and Weekly

Prayer Meeting, each Wednesday Evening, at

o'clock, at the residence of the President, 251 Par-

rammatta Road, Annandale Christians will receive

cordial welcome.

year of peaceful growth. For what is gained

Let God be thanked. If He has blessed our coast

Not of our own endeavours we would boast,

But honour Him who hath our course maintained,

And given us courage when we lacked it most,

And made us strong when faith and love were

strained.

Dwell Thou within us all, Holy Ghost!

Knit us together, to our hearts endear

Duty and Truth, and keep us at our post.

Stedfast, laborious, hopeful, and sincere,

Then God shall bless us—we shall yield increase—

In quietness shall be our strength, in service cheer,

And peaceful growth shall lead to growthful peace,

And ours shall be indeed blessed year.

Fob all the blessings crowded into the year

just gone we thank our Heavenly Father*

The consciousness of His past goodness in-

spires to future trustful service as our Mis-

sionaries venture forward for another year.

Our Annual Conference was time of

much blessing, and God’s presence was very

real in all our gatherings.

As foreshadowed in our September issue,

several important changes were made as to

future work.

It was decided to change the name of the

Mission from the “N.S.W. Aborigines’ Mis-

sion” to the Australian Aborigines’ Mis-

sion,” and also to at once commence work in

the other States.

Our Pioneering Missionary is to proceed

to Western Australia to establish the work

in that State.

It was also decided to increase the size of

The Advocate making it eight pages instead

of four pages.

The outing at La Perouse on Kings

Birthday was largely attended, and an en-

joyable time spent by those present.

The Annual Public Meeting, which took

place in the Leichhardt Methodist Church,

was ap object lesson of God’s wonde -work-

ing power in the hearts and jf the

people.

The Bible Reading on “ Witnessing ” (by

Mjr. T. Wills Pulsford), at the All-Night of

Prayer, was much enjoyed by Missionaries

and people.

very pleasing little gift arrived at La

Perouse on the holiday, when all the Mis-

sionaries were assembled at the annual

gathering.

It consisted of beautiful bouquet of

flowers, with birthday greetings from the

Devonshire Street Congregational Society of

Junior Christian Endeavour.

In connection with our Conference, we

wish to acknowledge the kindly greetings

from friends interested in the work.

Also for the friends who so quietly, and

yet so liberally, saw that hospitality was

provided for all the visitors at the Con-

ference.

To those Newcastle Endeavourers especi-

ally, who forwarded an amount to be used

for hospitality, we tender our most sincere

thanks.

The Lord was truly mindful of the needs

of all His workers, and to Him we ascribe

all the glory.

We have had encouraging word of good

work being done at Maclean, by Christian

lady workers. God bless them.

At Lawrence lady has opened her home,

where she meets little Sunday School class

of dark children. The attendance is in-

creasing.

We desire to tender our sincere thanks to

Mr. W. Scott, of the firm of Scotts, Limited

(Newcastle) for kindly donating the neces-

sary outfit for our new probationer.

We are sorry to report that Bro. Reeve,

who so heroically undertook and maintained

the work at Pindari for the past six months,

has been compelled to retire.

Our brother has laid solid foundation,

upon which big structure will be erected,

but God alone knows at what cost to our

Brother .Reeve. His is the Master’s “In-

asmuch.”

Mr. D. H. Caldwell, who so successfully

established the Bellbrook Mission, has con-

sented to take up the unfinished work at

Pindari.

Bro. Caldwell leaves for his new Station

in the course of few days. Pray that our

young brother be blest and sustained in his

work for God.

Miss Hetherington has been appointed to

the new station at Wellington, and leaves

for her new home immediately.

The Induction Service of our new worker

took place in the Dulwich Hill Baptist

Church, on Thursday Evening, November

28, presided over by the President.

The Rev. S. Harrison, Pastor, delivered an

impressive address. Mr. Telfer also took part.

We would appeal to our Wellington and

other friends for their prayerful sympathy

with Miss Hetherington ae she takes up

this new work. God bless our sister.

Several alterations, subject to the approval

of the Local Councils interested, have been

made in the location of Missionaries.

change has also been made in connec-

tion with the Advocate staff—Mr. J. W.

Boden, “Madeley Wood,” Dine St., Rand-

wick, replacing Mr. Hufton as Manager and

Publisher.

Will our subscribers and others desiring

information regarding our little paper kindly

communicate with Mr. Boden, at above

address.

Yet another worker coming. At our last

Council meeting another prabationer, who

is to begin work in January next, was ac-

cepted.

During prayer meeting at La Perouse

young woman made known her willingness

to offer for this branch of God’s work.

But where are the men? Surely, from

amongst the crowd who listened to the

claims of this work, there were at least one

or two young men to whom God had said—

“Go ye.”
