EVERYONES

WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED AUSTRALIAN VARIETY AND SHOW WORLD.

(Registered at the General Post Office, Sydney, for Transmission by Post as Newspaper.)

VoL No. 227

SYDNEY, JULY 9, 1924

Price SIXPENCE

HOYT’S DE LUXE George St. ....jSydney’s Leading Cinema House

RUMORS AND ROT

“They say

“The story goes that ”

“It may not be true hut hear on good authority ”

Rumors! ——often the cowards’ way of making statements they themselves are afraid to

back up.

Round about this time of the year when the new season's product is beginning to he

spoken of, rumors also begin to spread. All sorts of rumors hut mostly wild.

Sometimes those rumors, wilfully spread by parties that have reason, would he damag-

ing should they gain credence.

Word has come to First National that certain people, irresponsihles, are circulating

stories about this company which would be laughable were they not so pathetic.

The statement is that First National has IS Katherine McDonald features and numerous

Chas. Rav productions on its 1925 schedule.

STATEMENTS SUCH AS THESE ARE, OF COURSE, UTTERLY RIDICULOUS, AS

THE COMPANY TERMINATED ITS BUSINESS WITH BOTH THE PEOPLE MEN-

TIONED SOME CONSIDERABLE TIME AGO. RIDICULOUS AS THEY ARE, THEY

CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO GO UNCHALLENGED. FIRST NATIONAL IS TOO CON-

FIDENT OF THE FUTURE, TOO PROUD OF THE PRODUCT BEING MADE READY

FOR IT, TO ALLOW MUD-SLINGERS WHf VERY MUD-SLINGING IS ADMIS-

SION OF THEIR OWN WEAKNESS TO MAKE STATEMENTS WHICH MIGHT

CAUSE UNEASINESS TO EVEN ONE SINGLF CLIENT.

First National blames no company or organisation for the broadcasting of these remarks.

We know that our competitors would not descend to such back-door tactics. But it would

seem that some of them have irresponsibles in their employ.

There's room for everybody in this business, and the man who cannot face clean, above-

board competition ——hasn’t got the goods. When this company has had anything to say

about anybody else it has said it publicly and has been prepared to stand up for the

consequences.

We hereby warn the persons responsible for the statements we have mentioned and

we are cognisant of their identity-——that continuance of them may lead to serious trouble.
