No. 218

Registered as Newspaper.fo

Transmission by Post.

September 30, 1919.

One Shilling per Annum.

In Brief.

Who fathoms the eternal thought

Who talks of scheme and plan

The Lord is God He needetli not

The poor device of man.

And in the maddening maze of things,

When tossed by storm and flood,

To one fixed ground my spirit clings

know that God is good

And so beside the silent sea

wait the muffled oar

No harm from Him can come to me

On ocean or on shore.

know not where His islands lift

Their fronded palms in air

only know cannot drift

Beyond His love and care.

WHITTIER.

The month has been one of quiet work for Christ

and the aborigines.

The continued drought has hampered the work,

particularly at Noocoorilma, the reserve being

practically deserted.

Miss Malcolm spent two or three days most en-

joyably with old friends of the Missionaries— Mr.

and Mrs. Pulsford.

The Inverell Council gave Miss Malcolm

warm welcome after her long isolation consequent

upon the influenza epidemic.

An interesting report of public meeting held

at Inverell appears in another column.

Mr. Railton, our late Secretary, passed his 80th

milestone on the 24th instant. He is well, but

hMdiy as active as he would wish.

The Children’s Home has been favoured with

many visitors this month, including Mr. Foote (of

the A. P. Board), Mr. Morton, and Mr. Calder.

The two latter gentlemen put their visit to

practical purpose, erecting very much needed

pantry or store-room, for which the workers are

sincerely thankful.

The future Prayer and Council meetings are to

be held in the Vestry of the Glebe City Mission,

thanks to the kindness of Mr. Mills.

The next monthly Afternoon Prayer Meeting is

to be held in the Devotional Room, Y.MC.A,

Hall, Pitt Street, on the first Saturday in Novem-

ber, at p.m.

Interesting letters have come to hand from Miss

Lock, of Sunday Island, W.A. Her chief note

is one of thankfulness for God’s goodness during

her many years of active service among the na-

tives of Australia.

Letters from South Australia tell of the safe

arrival of Miss Turner. She reports fair trip,

and pleasing welcome home.

letter from the matron of Bomaderry Home

reports “ all well.” Gifts in cash and kind are

thankfully acknowledged.

Miss Baker has at last taken week’s rest,

spending the time with Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Fryer

(two of our old Missionaries), at Mona Vale.

The La Perouse workers were delighted with

visit from Mrs. Lyons, member of tha Inverell

Council.

We learn from Wellington paper that Mrs. E.

Daly (nee Miss Ardill), who waß teacher at the

Aborigines’ Bchool at Wellington for some years,

died lately, at the age of 67.
