AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINES ADVOCATE

The Organ of the Australian Aborigines Mission

monthly record of work amongst the Dark people of Australia.

"He made of one every nation of men for to dwell on all the face of earth" Acts XVII, 26, R.V.

No. 81

Registered as Newspaper for Transmission by Post.

March 31, 1908.

One Shilling per Annum.

In Brief.

The work at Inverell seems now on permanent

basis. Good work has been done during the past

two months.

Mr. Fryer arrived safely at his destination, and

is now at his work. His presence and help will

doubtless be of much assistance to Mr. Caldwell.

Miss Fowler, one of our helpers at Plumpton, has

been very ill, but we are pleased to hear that she

is now getting better, and is spending little time

for rest and change with Miss Thompson, at

Sackville.

Miss Hamer’s induction service is to take place

at Newcastle on the 31st instant.

The Council will be represented by the Secretary,

Miss Baker, as the President, Mr. T. E. Colebrook,

is unable to attend.

Our thanks are due to the Merewether Methodist

Junior C. E. for their kindly gift towards

the funds of the Mission. God bless the Juniors.

The month just gone has been one of acute testing

on some of our Mission Stations but God, who

knows all, did not permit of testing too severe.

“ His grace is sufficient.”

Miss Pain has had another turn of sickness, and

we earnestly ask your prayers that our worker may

be sustained in her time of trial.

La Perouse has had quite an army of visitors

during the month, and God has very graciously

made some blessing to Missionaries and people.

The Metroplitan C. E. Union made La Perouse

the spot for their Rally on Saturday, March 14th,

but the rain descended so copiously that only

limited number of members attended.

Meetings were held in the Church, afternoon

and night, profitable times being spent. At night

the Church was full.

Our good old friend Mrs. Lean has once more

been mindful of our workers, and we want to thank

her most heartily for her latest gift.

To Mr. Hugh Ross, the Petersham Baptist S. S.,

and all other kind friends, we also tender our

best thanks.

At the invitation of the Endeavourers connected

with Enmore Tabernacle, talk on the work of the

Mission was given by the President to large and

interested audience.

similar address will be given at the Hurst

ville Methodist Church on Wednesday evening,

April 8th.

We thank the Endeavourers for the opportunity

thus presented of telling out the story of the

work amongst the natives of Australia.

Miss Weir is to conduct the Monthly Prayer

Meeting, on Saturday, April 4th, at p.m., in

St. Barnabas School Hall.—“ Come with us, and

the Lord will do you good.”

Nice little parcels of clothing have been received

during the month, for which, as Council, we are

extremely thankful.

Our growing work brings increasing demands,

and the gifts of clothing enables our workers to

help the people to be cleanly and warmly clad.

Thanks to the kindness of the Rev. Mr. and Mrs.

Dunstan, our people were permitted to exhibit

some of the articles of their handicraft at Mis

sionary Loan Exhibition held in the Oddfellows

Hall, Enmore, during tbe month.

Active preparations are being made for the

Annual exhibits at the Royal Agricultural Societys

Show, space again being conceded by the Com-

mittee to our people.

Several articles are held over until next issue,

including an interesting letter from Peter Wandy,

an account of the work at Forster by Mr.

Morton, and an account of Miss Hamer’s In

duction, consequent upon pressure of news.
