£’ llke the other

officials here shown, is truly

pioneer of the League movement,

as he threw in his lot at the very

inception, being appointed to the

Cl9o Bmit t- ° thG istrict

190 Hls eneral earn-

estness the club welfare was

duly recognised, and he was elect-

Wehhln laTn Wi Mr ‘

Webb, 1910, till the present year,

also acting as selector for the same

period. He represented the

district as delegate to the head

body in 1909-10-11 and 1921, being

elected vice-president to the N.S.W.

R.F.L. in 1912-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-20,

being appointed to the manage-

ment committee of the League in

1909 to 1921 inclusive, which is in-

deed unique record of activity.

Always keen debater, with the

game’s welfare his sole ambition,

“Johnny,” as he is familiarly known,

has held the responsible office of

trustee of the League from 1914 to

1921 inclusive. When the second

“Kangaroos” toured England in

1911-12 he was joint manager with

Charlie Ford, and the success of

that tour was largely due to their

efficiency. As player, he was

capable half-back, and is very en-

tertaining when relating some of

his experiences of the “bad old

days” of the Union.

Mr. W. Webb, also pioneer of

the movement, stripped as half-

back for the first Eastern Suburbs

League team in 1908-9, his skill be-

ing such that he represented the

Rest of N.S.W. against the

“Kangaroos” in 1909. When the

first Eastern Suburbs Junior

League was formed “Wally,” al-

ways most ardent worker for the

juniors, was appointed hon. secre-

tary and selector in 1910-11. The

marked ability displayed by him

earned him high honors, for in

1912 he was elected district hon.

secretary, position he has held

with credit right up to the present

year, and if ability is recognised,

there does not seem much prospect

of change. He was also

selector for his club in 1909, and

from 1912 to 1921 continuously, and

the high position the club has oc-

cupied is credit to the astuteness

of East’s selectors. Since 1912

till the present he has represented

his district as delegate on the head

body. When the League team

toured New Zealand in 1912 he was

one of the joint managers. If

you happen to be looking for an

argument any time, just tell

“Wally” that Gordon Wright is no

good—then run.
