er very nippy and alert in attack,

characteristic of South Sydney.

being just about 10 stone. pro-

duct of South Sydney Junior

League, he was included in the dis-

trict thirteen in the middle of the

1917 season. He represented

N.S.W. v. New Zealand, in 1918,

also v. Queensland, in 1921, this be-

ing second thirteen.

F. Funnell is another S. Sydney

many as one of the most brilliant

exponents of the League code, par-

ticularly when it is borne in mind

how lightly structured “Tiger” is.

Serving his “time” in S.S. J.L. and

E.S. J.L., he was invited to play

with E.S.’s second thirteen late in

1915; but next season he residenti-

was included in the district team,

playing for that club until 1920.

He was then member of the S.S.

team, and has been continuously

so, this season being vice-captain.

Gillespie represented metropolitan,

and toured Queensland, in 1919.

He also represented N.S.W. second

thirteen, and again toured Queens-

land, in 1921.
