Forward.

J. Murphy (full-back) made his

debut with Glebe Arcadia Juniors

in 1918. Showing splendid form,

he was called up to play with the

district third-grade team in 1919.

But this youth had set out to get

to the top of the pile, and the fine

ability displayed by him made its

mark, for next season we find him

amongst the second-graders, and

more than holding his own. Now

comes the crowning point of his

career (up to date, at least), for

when Norm. Proctor left the dis-

trict without star custodian along

came the Lilliputian’s opportunity,

and how well he has seized it and

made good is the talk of all admir-

ers of brilliant and clever little

player. Sure of handling, sound

in defence, he has happy knack

of getting his three-quarters mov-

ing with well-judged run instead

of the usual catch-and-kick style,

fully realising that success comes

only to those who study the first

law of League football —possession.

He is but feather-weight, but has

powerful kick.

J. Toohey, left wing three-quart-

er, is another product of the local

juniors, playing with Glebe in 1916.

The second-grade selectors awoke

to his ability in 1917, and he con-

tinued to represent them until

1920. During this period he was

most prolific try-getter, and his

general all-round play entitled him

to try-out with the first-grade

team last season. How he made

good is history, and he gives prom-

ise of developing into champion.

He distinguished himself against

the Maoris and Kangaroos in re’

cent matches. Being speedy and

clever, he handles the ball splendid-

ly—an absolute essential to wing-

er that aspires to greatness—and

while exceptionally quick off the
