CLASS SIZES

■ or decades New South Wales parents and teachers have held strong convictions that

smaller class sizes are beneficial for student learning. The New South Wales Teachers

Federation adopted the 30 maximum policy in 1938, arguing at the time that

That half century later class size of 30 could still be seen as average is indicative

of the degree to which the staffing of our schools is wildly out of date. The fact that thousands

of NSW children are in classes over 30 is an indictment of supposedly "advanced" society.

As community, we must squarely face the question of cost

"Crowding our future Class Sizes" booklet available in schools, Term 92.
