Includes records relating to the Imperial Economic Conference, 1923-27; Dunedin Exhibition, 1925-28; New Zealand 1927 Cinematograph Films Act, cooperation between U.K. and Australian electrical industry, 1936-38; Australian development and schemes of migration within Empire; New Zealand Centenary Exhibition, 1937-40; import restrictions and bulk purchases by New Zealand Government, 1940-44 and discussions in Washington between the U.K., Dominions and United States on future trade policy, 1945-1947.
Background
Created 1918. Responsible for collating and disseminating overseas commercial intelligence and administering the overseas commercial services. Also responsible for British participation in overseas exhibitions, the administration of the Imperial Institute, and until 1930 it dealt with export credit, guarantees and insurance. Abolished 1946 with most functions transferred to the Board of Trade.
