Further Instructions  

 

The following additional instructions  

have been issued by the Repatriation  

and Demobilisation Department  

Officers are to understand that their  

duties in connection with the troops  

arc paramount, and thoy_ must be  

prepared, if regarded as militarily in-  

dispensable, to forego personal privi-  

leges to which they otherwise would  

be entitled-  

The leave granted in Australia on  

tlie basis of 12 days for every six  

months service abroad is not to exceed  

sixty days.  

Unit bands as far as possible will  

be repatriated as whole but no bands-  

man due for repatriation will be retai-  

ned against his wishes. Divisional  

groups are to endeavour to organise as  

far as possible from later date category  

bandsman one Divisional Band and three  

Brigade Bands, each of 28 players. Sur-  

plus instruments are, to be sent to En-  

gland for the use of bands organised  

in the depots there. The object is to  

have bands with as many troopships  

mssible.  

The Prime Minister has intimated  

that � nothing can be done here to  

alter the regulation regarding reduced  

penalties which the Defence Depart-  

ment of Australia decided should date  

only as from the Ist January, 1918. �  

The following rules apply in connec-  

tion with,  

� Men enlisted ?in Australia who de-  

sire to return to their homes elsewhere  

than in Australia. � (a) Each case to  

be dealt with on its merits (b) The  

general principle is to discharge the  

man in England and pay him as  

maximum, (1) passage money equal  

to third class fare to Australia, (2)  

Subsistence allowance for the number  

of days normally taken by transport  

going to Australia, and (3) allowance  

in lieu of disembarkation leave; (c)  

Leave with pay will not as rule be  

granted but cases of hardship will  

nsidered,  

Cases of members of the A.1.F., de-  

sirous of visiting other countries will  

receive sympathetic consideration from  

the Director beneral if good reasons  

and recommendations are given.  

Lieut; Skipper has been appointed on  

Headquarters, Australian Base Depots  

for the purpose of giving information  

on all matters concerning repatriation.

with 1220 members of the A.I.F. and 13  

wives, bound for Aussie.  

WHEN THE RAINS COME

Down the muddy, hool-scarred road-side, leaping high,  

Serried ranks oi angry waters running hy;  

As the iashing, blinding rains  

Drumming dirge-like dull relrains  

O?er the meadows and the lanes

DEMOBILISATION IN AUSSIE  

According to' newspapers recently ar-  

rived from Australia it was stated tliat  

the A.1.F., camps were to be disban-  

ded immediately. Instructions for the  

cutting down of all personnel were  

is sued The district guards in all Sta-  

tes were very considerably reduced, and  

the home services were to be dispensed  

with.
