Biographical / Historical
William Stanley Jevons (1835–1882). Educated at University College, London. In 1854 was appointed assayer at Sydney Mint and arrived in Sydney in October 1854. In addition to his professional work, he made detailed meteorological recordings, wrote several articles on the Australian climate and land and railway policy, and became interested in wet-plate photography. He returned to England in 1859 and soon established a lasting reputation as an economist and logician. He was a professor at Owens College, Manchester, 1863–1876, and at University College, London, 1876–1880.

Album of 113 photographs taken by W.S. Jevons and sent to his sisters (File 1)
Most of the photograph are annotated and include scenes of Double Bay (where Jevons lived), Darlinghurst, Milson's Point, Bradley Head, Lane Cove, Parramatta River, Homebush, Chowder Bay and the Sydney Mint, New South Wales, Australia. There are also photographs of friends and colleagues at the Sydney Mint.
