Biographical / Historical

In 1842 about a third of the ministers of the Church of Scotland seceded to form the Free Church of Scotland. In 1847 the United Secession Church and the Relief Church combined to form the United Presbyterian Church and its missionaries were active in Victoria and South Australia in 1847-57. The Free Church took over the Presbyterian missions in the New Hebrides in 1876. The Free Church and the United Presbyterian Church amalgamated in 1900 to form the United Free Church of Scotland, which united with the Church of Scotland in 1929.
