Fix this textCHARITY AND DOG SHOWS.
Fix this textWITH the Lord Mayor’s Charity Parade
Fix this textclose at hand, it is befitting that ex-
Fix this texthibitors and owners should allow their
Fix this textcharitable thoughts to be uppermost in their
Fix this textminds. This parade is held for the benefit
Fix this textof a cause that no reasonable person should
Fix this texthesitate to support whole-heartedly. Perhaps
Fix this textit might be a fitting time to show charitable
Fix this textfeeling and thought towards fellow-members
Fix this textof the doggy community, and to stifle some
Fix this textof our less charitable thoughts and
Fix this textutterances. Dog shows are a good method
Fix this textof raising funds for charitable purposes, but
Fix this textit is a rather significant fact that for some
Fix this textyears no event has been held to raise funds
Fix this textto help our canine friends. That the doggy
Fix this textcommunity should not have thought of raising
Fix this textfunds to help sick dogs, whether they be
Fix this textshow specimens or not, is rather remarkable.
Fix this textIt is probable that at this time, while the
Fix this textLord Mayor’s Show is being held under K.C.C.
Fix this textRules, the old familiar cry of an open show
Fix this textwill raise its head again. It will probably
Fix this textbe suggested that the K.C.C. is behaving in
Fix this texta very hard-hearted manner by not scrapping
Fix this textits rules for the sake of suggested added
Fix this textentries for a charity parade. Facts and
Fix this textreason should, however, come to our assist-
Fix this textance. The K.C.C. has wholeheartedly, by its
Fix this textCommittee, its members and exhibitors, sup-
Fix this textported charity fixtures held under its rules
Fix this textfor the sake of helping those who genuinely
Fix this textneeded help, and rightly. This can be done
Fix this textwithin the rules and constitution of the K.C.C.,
Fix this textand a dog show can then be used for the
Fix this textcause of charity.
Fix this textThere are some, however, who would wish
Fix this textto use charity. In their anxiety to pull down
Fix this textthe very satisfactory doggy governmental
Fix this textbody which hard work and keen thought has
Fix this textbuilt up, they seek to use the catch cry of
Fix this text“charity” to strike a blow at sound govern-
Fix this textment. This has been done before. There are
Fix this textthose who can remember clubs going neutral
Fix this textoutside the then existent controlling body, and,
Fix this textof course, a successful show is very necessary to
Fix this textshow their power to the controlling body—so
Fix this textthey do the obvious thing, they hold a show
Fix this textin aid of some charity with a view of stimula-
Fix this textting entries and, of course, raise a cry against
Fix this textthe “cruel controlling body” which is so un-
Fix this textcharitable. Members and exhibitors should
Fix this textbe aware of this form of attack and treat
Fix this textit with the humour which it deserves.

Fix this textGrounds on Saturday, 19th November, will
Fix this textclose at 9 p.m. on Monday, 7th November, in
Fix this textRoom 39, 4th Floor, Town Hall, Melbourne.
Fix this textThe fact that the Parade is to be held under
Fix this textK.C.C. of V. Rules in aid of the Lord Mayor’s
Fix this textHospital Appeal will, no doubt, be sufficient
Fix this textto ensure all K.C.C. Members and supporters
Fix this textmaking entries, even if complimentary ones.
Fix this textThe numerous attractions in the way of novel
Fix this textcompetitions will ensure a pleasant afternoon
Fix this textfor those who attend.
Fix this textThe entry fee per class is only 1/-. A
Fix this textnumber of particularly fine Special Prizes has
Fix this textbeen donated, and ribbons will be awarded
Fix this textto the first, second and third prize-winners.
Fix this textThe engagement of eleven judges, to com-
Fix this textmence at 2 p.m., will ensure plenty of time
Fix this textfor the taking of a sound film of the Grand
Fix this textParade.
Fix this textFree motor transport has been arranged

Fix this textdirect to the Parade. In the event of wet
Fix this textweather, judging will be carried out without
Fix this textany inconvenience in the main hall of the

Fix this textsupplied by the section to be conducted by

Fix this textALSATIAN CLUB PARADE.
Fix this textThe Fourth Parade of the Alsatian Club was
Fix this textheld by the courtesy of the V.A.T.C. at the
Fix this textCaulfield Motor Park. The Club was indeed
Fix this textfortunate in having an ideal day for its
Fix this textparade, and the entry of close on 90 dogs
Fix this textwas a tribute to the judge, Capt. Renwick. The
Fix this textorganisation reflected great credit on the
Fix this textSecretary, Mr. W. Hatcher, and the Committee.
Fix this textThe Judge was pleased with the quality of
Fix this textthe exhibits and the sporting attitude of the
Fix this textexhibitors.
Fix this textSome quite promising young stock was seen in
Fix this textthe puppy classes in each sex, and although
Fix this textit is a difficult business to pick baby puppies
Fix this textat any time, several breeders w'ere greatly
Fix this textimpressed with the possibilities of some of
Fix this textthe very young stock. Entries rolled in from
Fix this textplaces as far apart as Ouyen and Geelong.
Fix this textMr. Ryan, of Ouyen, scored with a promising
Fix this textpuppy, Ali of Lordwin, and Mr. Roocock, of
Fix this textGeelong, favourably impressed the Judge with
Fix this texta nice quality bitch which lacks a little in
Fix this textcharacter. The Rev. Dr. Blackney was pro-
Fix this textminent with some well-known exhibits, as
Fix this textalso were Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Clay, Mr. and
Fix this textMrs. Andrew. Best dog in show went to
Fix this textMr. and Mrs. Norman Mitchell’s Ch. Armin of
Fix this textMarengo, and best bitch to Rev. Dr. Blackney’s
Fix this textPatricia of Kooyong.
Fix this textThe temperament class gave the judge some
Fix this texthard thinking. It is difficult to judge on
Fix this texttemperament or character in a show ring.
Fix this textANOTHER SIGNIFICANT
Fix this textLETTER.
Fix this textThe Kennel Club of England has again
Fix this textwritten the Iv.C.C. in reference to the Aus-
Fix this texttralian Ladies’ Kennel Club’s claim that it is
Fix this textaffiliated with the Ladies’ Kennel Association
Fix this textof England, which body, like the K.C.C., is
Fix this textaffiliated with the Kennel Club. The letter
Fix this textreads—
Fix this text“ln the first place I would point out that
Fix this textthe Ladies’ Kennel Association of England is
Fix this textan ordinary registered society, subject to the
Fix this textRegulations governing the Maintenance of
Fix this textTitle of Registered Societies at the Kennel
Fix this textClub, and that no such registered society is
Fix this textpermitted to affiliate with any other society
Fix this textwithout the permission of the Committee of
Fix this textthe Kennel Club. I am further to add that
Fix this textthe Ladies’ Kennel Association of England
Fix this texthas no knowledge of any affiliation with the
Fix this textAustralian Ladies’ Kennel Club, and that
Fix this textapparently the only communication between
Fix this textthese two bodies was that the Ladies’ Kennel
Fix this textAssociation of England gave two L.K.A.
Fix this textSpoons to the Australian Ladies’ Kennel Club
Fix this textin June, 1930. There is evidently some mis-
Fix this textunderstanding, and the Australian Ladies’
Fix this textKennel Club is in no way affiliated to or
Fix this textrecognised by the Kennel Club here.”
