Fix this textThe New Committee.
Fix this textIt is safe to say that with the calm which
Fix this textfollows the activity of dog owners in connec-
Fix this texttion with the biggest and best show of the
Fix this textyear, that of the R.A.S. of V., speculation is
Fix this textrife as to the personnel of the governing
Fix this textCommittee of the K.C.C. for the future.
Fix this textSo far it is clear that Sir Charles Merrett
Fix this text(President of the R.A.S. of V.), Mr. W.
Fix this textCockbill (Vice-President of R.A.S. of V.), and
Fix this textMr. Louis Monod (Secretary) will constitute
Fix this textthree of the members of the Committee, but,
Fix this textalthough many statements to the contrary
Fix this texthave been made, it is equally clear that no
Fix this textother individual has been invited to take a
Fix this textseat on that Committee, nor would it seem
Fix this texthas the total number of Committeemen been
Fix this textdecided upon.
Fix this textIt is, of course, common knowledge that
Fix this textthere will be some additional members, and
Fix this textthat at least some of these will be chosen
Fix this textfrom dog breeders and exhibitors.
Fix this textAlready many suggestions have been made
Fix this textas to the considerations which should guide
Fix this textthe R.A.S. of V. in choosing this Committee.
Fix this textThe first suggestion has been to eliminate
Fix this textall individuals who have any financial interests
Fix this textin dogs, on the ground apparently that such
Fix this textan individual is hound to act in a manner
Fix this textwhich will bring more profit to himself and
Fix this textless benefit to the interests of the dog world.
Fix this textWhile conceding that there have been and
Fix this textprobably are individuals who are so
Fix this textconstituted and who would so act, there are
Fix this textundoubtedly those in existance who, although
Fix this textmaking a living out of dogs, either wholly or
Fix this textin part, are still capable of sound sportsman-
Fix this textship, good temper, and an unbiassed interest
Fix this textin the advancement of matters doggie. It
Fix this textwould not seem a proper thing that financial
Fix this textindependence should be necessary in order to
Fix this textappeal to the R.A.S. as a proper member of
Fix this textCommittee.
Fix this textOne also hears that some people of financial
Fix this textindependence have said and done things in
Fix this texttheir anxiety to gain a valueless prize which
Fix this textreflect no credit on either themselves or the
Fix this textfancy in general.
Fix this textThe second suggestion is that all those who
Fix this texthave been prominent in the dog world in
Fix this textthe past should be ruthlessly excluded. As
Fix this textsome or all of these individuals have been,
Fix this textto put it doggily, “bones of contention,” it
Fix this textwould undoubtedly serve the interests of some
Fix this textindividuals if an inexperienced committee, the
Fix this textmembers of which had little conception of
Fix this textthe direct or indirect activities of subversive-
Fix this textness and unfair tactics, were appointed. It
Fix this textwould be just too easy. On the other hand,
Fix this textit is quite true that those who have been
Fix this textprominent in the dog world mainly on account
Fix this textof the fact that intrigue, trouble, and argu-
Fix this textments accompany them wherever they go*
Fix this textwould not constitute a committee in which
Fix this textthe fancy as a whole would have over-much
Fix this textconfidence.
