The New Committee.

It is safe to say that with the calm which

follows the activity of dog owners in connec-

tion with the biggest and best show of the

year, that of the R.A.S. of V., speculation is

rife as to the personnel of the governing

Committee of the K.C.C. for the future.

So far it is clear that Sir Charles Merrett

(President of the R.A.S. of V.), Mr. W.

Cockbill (Vice-President of R.A.S. of V.), and

Mr. Louis Monod (Secretary) will constitute

three of the members of the Committee, but,

although many statements to the contrary

have been made, it is equally clear that no

other individual has been invited to take

seat on that Committee, nor would it seem

has the total number of Committeemen been

decided upon.

It is, of course, common knowledge that

there will be some additional members, and

that at least some of these will be chosen

from dog breeders and exhibitors.

Already many suggestions have been made

as to the considerations which should guide

the R.A.S. of V. in choosing this Committee.

The first suggestion has been to eliminate

all individuals who have any financial interests

in dogs, on the ground apparently that such

an individual is hound to act in manner

which will bring more profit to himself and

less benefit to the interests of the dog world.

While conceding that there have been and

probably are individuals who are so

constituted and who would so act, there are

undoubtedly those in existance who, although

making living out of dogs, either wholly or

in part, are still capable of sound sportsman-

ship, good temper, and an unbiassed interest

in the advancement of matters doggie. It

would not seem proper thing that financial

independence should be necessary in order to

appeal to the R.A.S. as proper member of

Committee.

One also hears that some people of financial

independence have said and done things in

their anxiety to gain valueless prize which

reflect no credit on either themselves or the

fancy in general.

The second suggestion is that all those who

have been prominent in the dog world in

the past should be ruthlessly excluded. As

some or all of these individuals have been,

to put it doggily, “bones of contention,” it

would undoubtedly serve the interests of some

individuals if an inexperienced committee, the

members of which had little conception of

the direct or indirect activities of subversive-

ness and unfair tactics, were appointed. It

would be just too easy. On the other hand,

it is quite true that those who have been

prominent in the dog world mainly on account

of the fact that intrigue, trouble, and argu-

ments accompany them wherever they go*

would not constitute committee in which

the fancy as whole would have over-much

confidence.
