THE KENNEL CONTROL

COUNCIL

First Report of Proceedings

It was not until late in 1935 that your Com-

mittee was nominated by the Council of the

Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria to take

over the assets and records which the K.C.C.

of V. had requested the Society to accept.

Nevertheless, much has been done in the re-

organisation found necessary, and many steps

for the progressive betterment of the fancy

generally have been taken.

Already new arrangement has been made

effecting considerable financial saving in the

publication of the K.C.C. Kennel Gazette.

So that there would be no possibility of any

angle of subjects affecting Field Trials being

overlooked, sub-committee was appointed to

co-opt representatives of the gundog world. The

resulting discussions have proved most helpful.

With the object of providing both judges

and fanciers with the opportunity of acquiring

or improving their knowledge of the different

breeds of dogs, the principle of series of

monthly lectures has been agreed upon and

will be elaborated at an early date. At the

same time, consideration will be given to

proposals to govern the admission of names

to the Official Panel of Judges, and, pending

completion of scheme, no additions or

alterations will be made. In the meantime

judges will be permitted to adjudicate at Cham-

pionship and Country Championship Shows,

provided they have judged three Shows and/or

Parades of the breeds concerned.

The past practice of awarding Annual Cups

to successful exhibitor-members was not adopted

by your Committee, and the saving in ex-

penditure, with considerable addition, was

used to practically double the allocation of the

more popular K.C.C. Spoons at the Shows of

affiliated bodies.

To encourage the exhibition of Whippets and

Greyhounds the policy has been adopted of

registering without fee dogs of those breeds

which are registered with other recognised

bodies functioning particularly in their

interests.

All of the 35 active affiliated bodies of the

K.C.C.’s predecessor applied for the reservation

of dates, and the complete 1936 programme of

fixtures was drawn up after careful considera-

tion had been given to the claims of each

applicant.

The list was further increased by the ad-

mission of three new bodies in the Footscray

and Yarraville Kennel Club, the Yarra Glen

Agricultural and Horticultural Society, and the

Heidelberg Horses in Action Society.

On behalf of the Royal Agricultural Society of

Victoria negotiations were made for the engage-

ment of renowned English judge for the Mel-

bourne Royal Show. In addition, recommenda-

tions were made at the Society’s invitation

having as their object improvements in the

classification provided and the conduct of the

show generally.

The K.C.C. Annual now nearing completion

gives every sign of being an improvement on

past issues.

The accompanying audited statements show

that the K.C.C. commences its first complete

year with cash credit of £6O/0/10 and an

excess of assets over liabilities of £125/12/2.

Although the K.C.C.’s first financial year did

not commence until January 1, 1936, at that

date 204 persons had paid subscription of 5/-

for the new year.

Your committee, which is annually appointed

by the Council of the Royal Agricultural Society

of Victoria, believes that new era has been

born for the dog world. Every indication has

been favourable one. Your hobby is being

nursed into an industry, and for this all fanciers

will tender their thanks to the Royal Agricul-

tural Society of Victoria, firstly, for its sym-

pathetic compliance with the request of the

committee of the K.C.C. of Victoria, that it

accept that body’s assets and records, and,

secondly, for the Society’s later actions which

led to the establishment of the K.C.C.

Happily, with the adoption of Constitution

and Rules, in most respects the same as those

of the K.C.C. of Victoria, the change to K.C.C.

entailed no inconvenience to fanciers, and your

committee has been pleased to receive many

expressions of good will and promises of whole-

hearted support, which, being unsolicited, are

the more appreciated as indications of greater

harmony in the canine world.
