Heavy earthmoving equipment fills an important role in engineering projects. Forty-five ton units, comprising tractor and ripper, are used in cable-laying operations. 15
A repeater station at Townsville (Queensland) on the Brisbane-Cairns microwave trunk system. It also serves as the junction of the system now reaching out through Mt. Isa to Darwin. Completion of this link is scheduled for 1974. 16

Completion of the Mt. Bellenden Ker steel ropeway project near Cairns (Queensland) was a prerequisite to the establishment of an improved television service for Cairns and surrounding districts. The ropeway is used to carry personnel and materials to the transmitter station. 38
A cable, laid under Lake Victoria in Gippsland (Victoria), provides communications facilities for subscribers in that area. The cost was about a tenth of what would have been involved had the cable been laid round the lake. 38
An Australian designed and manufactured Wallfone has proved popular with customers. Its compactness and convenience are two of its attributes... another is that it can be installed out of reach of toddlers. 38
