EDITED BY A. G. POWELL

Vol. I. No. 3. BRISTOL. January 20th. SIXPENCE.

BY the time the third number of Coo-ee

is in the hands of readers, the New

Year will have got well off the mark.

It will not, however, be too late

to give seasonable greeting to our

friends in hospital and camp, and out

yonder where the business of the

Empire is keeping so many of our

gallant lads working overtime under

ground, and under fire, overhead, (food

luck to every one of you.

**'

word of explanation is due to our

readers for the delay in issuing our

December number. The Press Censor

has more than passing interest in all

publications dealing with military

matters, and it was only as we were

going to press that request came to

submit all proofs. Hence the delay.

Many inquiries have been received

with regard to the authorship of that

particularly bright feature of our

December number, About Mule-

Story of Remount Camp." The

author is Mr. Lionel V. Manning, who,

we are glad to say, is now definitely

associated with the literary side of the

management of Coo-ee.

Hearty congratulations to another

member of our literary staff, Mr. T.

Jay, upon his recent appointment as

regular contributor to Punch's smartest

page, Charivaria."

Arrangements have now been made

which, we hope and believe, will enable

Coo-ee to find regular" place in many

homes throughout the western counties,

as well as in the camps where Austra-

lians are preparing for active service.

Our main purpose, as already stated

in previous numbers, is to add to the

brightness of hospital life, but as much

that appears in our pages is, we hope,

of general interest, the journal of

Bishop's Knoll is open to all who care

to give it their support.

It is now, as at the outset, purely

voluntary effort. Every contribution,

literary or artistic, is freely given, and

our sincere and hearty thanks are due

to all who are assisting in the work.

Will contributors to Coo-ee kindly note

that, as we publish on the 20th of each

month, MS., drawings, &c., must reach

ns at the latest by the 7th.
