mation, apply to the Manager, Ernest Evvins;

SPECIAL NOTICE TO A.N.A. BRANCHES.

Wet will be glad to receive items of Association

news and reports of branch meetings. This will

tend to keep the members more in touch with

each other, and promote friendly intercourse in

manner that must be beneficial to the Asso-

ciation.

Contributions on National or Association topics,

sent to the Editor, will receive careful attention,

and will find place in our columns, should the

•subject be deemed of sufficient importance.

Ourselves.

With this issue of Advance Australia we

have to announce some important changes.

During the past twelve months due con-

sideration has been given to the practica-

bility of converting the Journal into

weekly, and one which it was hoped

might assume some importance as semi-

public production. However, upon full

investigation, and taking into account the

past three and a-half years’ experience, it

was thought that the Association itself is

not yet strong enough to support such

journal, and that unless fair amount of

of public support was accorded the ven-

ture it would be unsuccessful. With

such an abundance of A.N.A. news in its

columns this, however, could not be ex-

pected any more largely than at present.

Therefore, the issue of the proposed

weekly has been abandoned for the pre-

sent, and in consequence the proprietor,

Mr. Theo. W. Heide has relinquished

his position. He has not, however, en-

tirely severed his connection, but will

continue to take an active interest in it in

another capacity.

His successor as manager, Mr. Ernest

Kwins, is the senior partner in the firm of

Messrs. Ewins Wilke, Printers, Mel-

bourne. He is also secretary of the

Coburg Branch of the Association, and

has for some time taken quiet, yet ac-

tive, interest in A.N.A. affairs. He is also

journalist by profession.

With the change of management and

the temporary abandonment of the pro-

posed weekly, it was deemed advisable to

move off in another direction as reques-

ted frequently by many members of the

Association. Hence, we decided to re-

duce the price of the paper to two shil-

lings and six-pence per annum, or post-

free, three-shillings. Also to devote its

columns almost exclusively to branch

news and matters directly affecting the

organisation, and to more closely scruti-

nise its inner workings. It is also our in-

tention to deal more fully with the indi-

vidual work of members and to repro-

duce regularly photos of those assuming

prominence, together with brief ac-

count of their work in the Association,

and thus make them better known

throughout its ramifications. In this con-

nection we have made arrangements with

the proprietors of the well-known Melba

Studios, (both members of the A.N.A.)

corner of Collins and Swanston-streets, to

take photos on our behalf free to the

sitters.

In order to create bond of interest

between the members of the branches

and the paper, and also to assist in fur-

thering the advancement of the Associ-

ation representative of the Advance

Australia will periodically visit each

branch and endeavour to make himself

live factor in the programme of the even-

ing.

We can claim that with the alterations

made the paper will more fully discharge

in the future all the functions of purely

Association paper than any of the previous

publications, and will be more in line

with its requirements.

Under Mr. Heide’s management we are

pleased to say that the paper rapidly in-

creased in popularity and circulation.

Unfortunately neither, nor do both com-

mand success. We are quite content to

be philanthropic for time, but not for

all time. We would therefore remind

members that while we are making our
