Fix this textThe latest round of disbursements from the AIDS Trust of
Fix this textAustralia has resulted in $20,000 being provided to set up a
Fix this textHIV/AIDS telephone service for women.
Fix this textThis volunteer based service will extend peer support services
Fix this textavailable to HIV positive women and assist them to network. It will
Fix this textprovide information about support services offered by the AIDS
Fix this textCouncil of NSW. The line will also offer support to the partners,
Fix this textfriends and relatives of HIV positive women.
Fix this textThe service will utilise a 008 line which will initially be open two
Fix this textdays a week for four hours each day. To encourage peer support, the
Fix this textline will also be capable of handling conference calls.
Fix this textAll volunteers will complete a one day telephone counselling course
Fix this textbefore participating in the service.
Fix this textA total of $400,000 was made available to community projects in this
Fix this textround of disbursements. Over 30 projects were funded including
Fix this text$70,000 for the Community HIV/AIDS Trials Network, $20,000 to
Fix this textdevelop educational materials for Koori communities, and $40,000
Fix this textto assist further development of the HIV/AIDS legal centre.
