TRADE ARRANGEMENT WITH INDIA  

AUSTRALIAN TRADE DELEGATION TO INDIA AT RECEPTION GIVEN BY DELHI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE  

Jute manufactures, linseed oil, cotton and other  

products essential to Australia’s primary and secondary  

industries, will be available in increased quantities  

as result of trade arrangement concluded with  

India.  

he trade arrangement, which followed negotiations  

by an Australian Delegation in New Delhi, was signed  

on October 2. It covers the major commodities con-  

cerned in trade between the two countries and will  

operate until June 30, 1952.  

India has agreed to permit the export to Australia  

of the following goods up to the quantities stated:—  

Jute manufactures (120,000 tons); linseed oil  

(15,000 tons, of which 25 per cent, may be taken in  

seed); castor oil (4,000 tons); ground nut oil (500 tons);  

cotton piecegoods, of specified varieties (61,000,000  

yards); cotton waste (3,000 tons); cotton yarn (5,000  

hales); short staple cotton (5,000 bales).  

In return, Australia has undertaken to use her best  

endeavours to supply to India maximum quantities  

of wheat and flour; lead (10,000 tons); zinc (7,000  

tons subject to normal Australian production); white  

collar inedible mutton tallow (3,000 tons); stearine  

(75 tons); casein (350 tons).
