About Phonobet
Phonobet is a modern-day, Australian answer to Dr Seuss’s ABC. This very clever rhyming text takes an onomatopoeic romp through the 44 phonemes of Australian (and British) English, comparing sounds to trees, bees, trains, robots, monkeys, pirates and more.
About Kathy Weeden
Kathy Weeden is a Canberra-based children’s writer, language nerd and teacher with a passion for sound and story. She spent the first 10 years of her life among the mountains, castles and lakes of northern Italy, before moving to Sydney, which has no castles but bigger back yards. Growing up, she always loved singing, writing poems and generally playing with her voice. Her first picture book, Phonobet, was born out a of a desire to help children explore their voices too. When not writing or teaching, Kathy enjoys reading, learning languages, running, and staying away from swooping magpies. Kathy lives in Canberra with her husband and three rambunctious children.
