National Library of Australia Wireless Service
Terms and conditions of use

The National Library of Australia (the ‘Library’) offers visitors free wireless network access throughout the building and surrounds. To access the wireless service, you need to bring a device that is capable of connecting to a wireless network

Please note that the Library does not guarantee to support wireless access with any specific software program.

Wireless service

The wireless service allows you to use your laptop computer or PDA to access the Internet over an IEEE 802.11b or 802.11g wireless interface at a designated wireless coverage area (‘hotspot’) without physically connecting a telephone line.

The wireless service is provided without any guarantee that it is continuous or fault-free.

To use the wireless service, you must comply with the Library’s Acceptable Use of Information and Communication Technology policy. We may exercise, at our discretion, any of the rights specified in the Acceptable Use Policy.

You are automatically logged-out of the service when you:

  • have been logged on for 12 hours
  • leave a wireless hotspot
  • remove or disable your wireless LAN access card or
  • power-down your device.

Your session ends two (2) minutes after the disconnection.

Technical support

The Library does not provide technical support for your personal laptop or PDA, nor assistance to configure your equipment for wireless access. The Library does not take any responsibility for any changes that you make to your equipment settings to access the Service.

If you experience a problem with the service which is not related to your own equipment, please report the difficulty to Library staff in any of the Library’s reading rooms.

Limitation of liability

There are no circumstances in which the Library or individual staff members are liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages (including, but not limited to, loss of data, non-deliveries, transmission of viruses, loss of funds or profits, interruption, or safety of equipment). This is the case no matter how these problems are caused and under any theory of liability, including negligence or anything else that arises in any way out of using the Service, even if the Library has advised you of the possibility of such damage.

By proceeding to use the Library’s wireless service, you agree to these terms and conditions of use.

You are requested not to use the Wireless Service within the bookplate restaurant or ex libris outdoor cafe.
