SNAKE VICTIM
Girl Dies From Bite
TIRRANNA CASE
Bittcn by a snake at Tirranna
at about 4.30 yesterday afternoon Rosy Mills, aged 12, a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Mills, of
Tirranna, died at the Goulburn
District Hospital at 3 a.m. to-day.
Rosy was crossing a paddock with her sister and brother at about 4.30
p.m. and when passing a briar bush a
snake savagely attacked the girl,
striking her on the left ankle. The children saw the snake, but could not say whether it was a tiger snake or of the black variety.
When the girl was bitten her sister
ran to the Tirrannaville post office,
which was half a mile away, and told
Miss Mary Clarke, daughter of the
postmistress at the Tirrannaville
Post Office. Miss Clarke hurried back
with the girl, and after using a razor
to scarify the wound, sucked it and
applied three ligatures to the leg.
They brought the girl to the post
office and it was then 5 o'clock. The
Goulburn District Ambulance was com-
municated with, and after a solution
of permanganate of potash had been
applied to the wound the girl was
taken in a private car to Goulburn.
This was met on the journey by the
ambulance car, and on examination of
the treatment applied, the ambulance
officers found that nothing further
could be done.
Rosy was admitted to the Goulburn
District Hospital, but despite the
medical aid available there she grad-
ually sank and died early this morning.
