W. J. Cleary Appointed
CANBERRA, Wednesday.
T'lie appointment of Mr. WV. J. Cleary
as chairman of the Broadcasting Conm
mission was announced by the Prime
Minister, Mr. Lyons, last night. Mr.
Cleary will take op his duties within
a few (lays.
The choice of Mr. Cieary marks the
failure of an attempt by a section of
Cabfuet to change thile headquarters of
the Conmlission from Sydney to Mel
boorne.
This would have been involved in
the alternative suggestion for the ap
pointlment of Mr. Herbert Brooks, a
memlber of tile present board.
Cabinet also rejectedl' a proposal to
make thile chlairmanship a full-tlhne
positiori. The salary, as in thile case
of Mr. C. Lloyd-Jones, whoml Mr.
Cleary succeeds, will be £500.
