NOTES IN THE FEDERAL.
PARLIAMENT.
Tho House of lIooresentativos on TWednesday
agreed to a motion approving of the scheme of naval
defenco adopted at the Imperial Conference. The
resolution also expressed the opinion that "'teps ho
taken to provido an Australian unit of the Eastern
fleet of the Empire." Mr. Cook was interrupted,
and moved that the question be put. The closure
motion was carried by 32 to 18, and the original
motion by 39 to 9. The Minister for Defence has
had regulations issued in order to provide f3r ap
prontices in the naval forces. Tle Electoral Bill
was faurther considered in committee in the House of
ioproeentatives. Tile amendment moved by Mr.
Bamford, seeking to curtail newspaper critieism at
election time, was withdrawn. A now clanon was
inserted rendering any person acting in a disorderly
muannor at a publio meeting liable to a fine. The
debate on the second reading of the Constitution
Alteration (Finance) Bill was resumed in the Senate.
