B7JNGENDORJE.
(From Our Correspondent.)
The wealher bas of late been as fickle as a change
fel dream, bright glsnme of sunshine altelnatmg
with cloudy skies, sadden squals and flying showere,
again and again during the past week, while the
cold has been intense. "The night was 'inter in
ils roughest mood, the morning sharp nnd clear,"
might well have been said of the night on which our
fall of snow visited us, and of the bright frosty
morning which succeeded it. The hillb and dales
looked boeautiful in their white covering. Snow
bal:ing and onowmoen were the order of the day. A
:peedy thaw, however, set in, and by the following
day, except on the distant hills, there was nothing
left of t he beautiful snow.
Railway Cummissionors. - These gentlemen some
woeks since paid a flying visit to JBangendore, and
wore once tmore interviewed by tle president and
nembers of the Progress Association as to providing
botter facilities for loading wool on tihe railway
trucks. Mr. Johnsoa na usual stated that the matter
wus still under careful consideration, and would
with other matters he well looked into. The Com
issioner is thoroughly practical and quick in his re
plies to queries; but up to the present time the asked
for improvements lhave not been carried out.
School of Arts. - The annual meeting of the
aembers of this institution took place in the read
tng-room on the 27th instant, and was fairly well
attended -The treasurer reported that there was a
eumn of £58 17/3 in hand. Tihe election of officers
for tlo ensuing year resulted as follows: --'resi

H. Hanford; secretary, Mr. O. Mlanrield; conm
mitten, Measrs. C. Melville, J. Langford, A. W.
Daniel, and J. J. Edmunds ; auditors, Mesrs. ,V.
Murdock and N. Bond. The now committee elected
has much useful work before it, and the serious
question of decreasing membership will have to be
firmly faced.
Reserve Riflemen. - The annual meeting of the
Bungendore Reserve Rifle Club took place on Wed
nesday evening last at the Lake George Hotel.
Captain E. J. Daniel presided, and notwithetand
ing the inclemency of the weather there was a
good attendance of membersn and visitors. Apolo
gtea were tendered for the absoene of Colonel Ryrie,
M.L A,, Messrs. J. S. Wleh and W. F. Rutledge.
Correspondence was rea4 by the secretary eon
corning various matters, and dealt with. The tn
nual report of the secretary .showed that there
were upwards of 50 members on the roll, and the
club was in a flourishing condition. The treasurer's
report stated that £36 15/t1 remained to the credit
of the club. Both reports were adopted. 'loe fol
lowing were elected as office-bearers for the en
suing year :-Patron, Mr. W. F. Rutledge; cap
tain, Mr. E. J. Daniel; secretary, Mr. A. W.
Daniel; treasurer, Mr. F. S. Fleconer; committee,
Hessrs. S. Gallagher, J. Wark, J. O. McAlister,
and J. Winter. A voto of thanks was accorded to
the retiring officers, af oer which the company partook
of refreshments, and the following toasts were duly
honoured :- "kThe King," proposed by Captain
Daniel; "Colonel Ryrie," proposed by Mr. A. H.
L. Hanford and responded to by Mr. P. B. Donnelly
on behalf of the Colonel; "Our Patron," proposed
by Captain Daniel, Mr. J O. McAlister replying in
teo absence of Mr. Rtutledco ; " The Presse," by
Councillor Falconer, Mr. J. Anderson respondiog.
Other toasts followed, after which Reservist 3.
Gallagher was presented with the Ryrie medal for
good shooting. The captain, in making the presen
tation on behalf of the dotnor, intimated that several
gentlemen had given prizes for the coming year's
shooting, and ie urged the members to stick to prao
tice. The recipient of the medal in a few remarks
returned thanks, said he lived in hopes of winning
more. Ho would have a good try. The even
ings proceedings were brought to a close with
"Auld Lang Syne."
Matrimonial. - Mr. Bede Nash, of Bungendore,
was married to Miss Hilling, of Braidwood, on
Wednesday last at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, the
ceremony being performed by the Rev. Father
Kenny.
F'reezing Works.-A suggestion has been made
by the local representative rabbit trappers that the
proprietors of the Bungendoreofreezing works intro
duce a *profit-sharing system in connection with
their businese, wh-rcby trappers would get in addi
tion to the price paid for their catches a substantial
bontst yearly. The comnpany is taking the proposal
into favoturalo consideration.
Personal.-I regret to state that Mr. John Unwin,
who is at present an inmate of a Sydney hospitil,
suffering from blood poisoning, has had a portion
of one of his hands amputated.
Straying Cattle Noisance. - Residents are kept
busy hunting stray cattle off their premises, and at
night the fout portions of some of the houses re
semble a cow-yard. It has been suggested that the
Shilre Council call tenders for the grass right of the
streets, which will bring in a little revenue, and at
the same time give ratepayers a hint that when they
go out they nmut be prepared to face cattle of all
sorts and sizes.
