GUNDARO0.
(From our Correspondent.)
Despite unfavourable weather conditions the elo
cutionary recital given on Saturday night by Mr. A.
F. Remmington was well attended. The entire
proceeds go to the building fund of the Phrlio
Library, which has received a welcome increase as a
result of the Librarian's enthusiasm. Saturday
night's programme was a lengthy and varied one,
and included selections from Longfellow, Edgar
Allan Poe, Tennyson, Scott, and Buchanan, and in
all his different rentitions Mr. Remmington was well
received, the audience thoroughly appreciating his
recital. The comic relief was supplied by some of
the local juveniles. Master Jack Clemenger sang
"How Dee do Dee," and in response to a clamour for
more seemed to tickle his audience with "'The Little
Shirt My Mother Made for Me." Six school children,
viz., Misses V. Poulton, N. Webster, and E.
Wales, and Masters W. Affleck, J. Clemenger, and
G. Fowler, recited "The Wreck of the Hesperus"
in character with an appropriate song, the item
being well received. A comic duet, entitled
" Pushed it Through the Window," by Jacky Clemenger
and Willie Affleck, quite took the fancy
of the audience, and the number was vociforously
re-demanded. The accompaniments were played
by Mrs. Albert Lees. A dance followed, which
proved thoroughly enjoyable.
Rain, wind, snow, quite south pole weather.
