Sydney cancer institute
SYDNEY: A cancer-rcscarch
institute, of a standard matching
international efforts to combat
the disease, is to be established
in Sydney in time for the 1988
Bicentenary.
Detailed planning for the set
ting up the $30 million institute,
to be jointly established by the
University of Sydney and Royal
Prince Alfred Hospital, has
begun following grants totalling
$400,000 by the Federal and
State Governments.
The grants will fund a project
management study announced
yesterday by the NSW Minister
for Health, Mr Brereton, the uni
versity Vice-Chanccllor, Pro
fessor John Ward, and the hospi
tal's general superintendent, Dr
Don Child.
The. institute will be known as
the Centenary Institute of
Cancer Medicine and Cell
Biology.
