AFRICA.
ARRIVAL OF AN AMERICAN SHIP.
After a capital voyage of 30 days from
Delagoa Bay, East Coast of Africa, the
American full-rigged ship Emily Reed
dropped anchor off Passage Point, at the
entrance to D'Entrecasteaux Channel, on
Saturday afternoon She is a wooden
vessel of 1,565 tons gross, and 1,467 tons
net The Emily Reed is chartered to
load the second portion of piles for South
Africa, for which Messrs Gray Bros have
the contract The supervision of preparing
and shipping the timber is being
carried out by Mr K C Richardson, of
London, who arranged the previous shipments
of long piles to Dover, England
The Emily Reed is in sand ballast, and
will discharge at the mouth of Barnes

taking in stiffening and proceeding
