Scully begins
bilateral
talks with
South Korean
SEOUL, Monday (AAP-AFP).
- Australia's Secretary of the De
partment of Trade and Resources,
Mr Jim Scully, and South Korea's
Vice^Minister of Energy-Resources,
Mr Choi Dong-Kyu, opened three
days of bilateral talks on resources
development co-operation between
the Jwo countries today.
They will discuss Australia's long
term supply of iron ore, coal and copper
to South Korea and possible further
South Korean resource-development
joint ventures in Australia.
South Korea's State-run Pohang
Steel Company recently invested
SA28.6 million to exploit the Mount
Thorley mine in NSW, in a joint venture
with Australian Miller Ltd, to import
annually a million tonnes of coal.
The Hyundai industrial group also
went into development of the Drayton
mine in Queensland.
South Korea's imports from Aus
tralia amount to about SAS90 million
a year, against its exports to Australia
"f SA200 million.
