Marconi overpowers
NEWCASTLE: The might of Na
tional Soccer League glamour club
Marconi proved too much for the
Newcastle Breakers last night when it
overpowered the home team 2-1 in the
second leg of their cup tie.
After a 1-1 draw with the Breakers
last Wednesday night, Marconi moved
into the second round against Parra
matta Melita with a 3-2 aggregate.
But Marconi's joy was damaged by
the anger Italian import Ermanno Pel
Iucchi raised in coach Frank Arok after
he was sent off in the 17th minute.
After Marconi went down 1-nil to a
goal by former Socceroo Graham Jen
nings off a rebounding David Lowe
header, Pellucchi appeared to com
pletely lose his cool.
He was booked in the 16th minute
for a crude challenge on Breakers'
winger Nick Meredith and within a
minute was being shown the red card
for a similar offence also on Meredith.
Arok said after the game that Pelluc
chi's actions were "ridiculous" and "he
will pay dearly for it; there is a $1000
fine in this club for that sort of thing".
But despite Pellucchi's indiscretion,
the Breakers were unable to take ad
vantage of Marconi's shortcomings,
missing a number of good opportuni
ties to finish the match.
