,Twenty-one Port league footballers from last
year are off the senior training list for this season.
This. drastic reduction is part of a rebuilding
program.
Port played 35 men last year.
Quinn and Kretschmier, State
playerS; have retired and Davis
has:gone, to Sturt.'
SOthers omitted from the
league side list are Tapp, Jolly,
Dick Hall. Mann, Mills, Weise,
Hoffman, Hull, - Pederson,
Christensen, Hubbert; Taylor,
Pender, Grant, Curtis.. Moore,
Gower, and. Germein. Nine
have been. asked to train with
the : association side.
Clarke : and Dolman, two of
the 11 new players, have had
previous league experience. -
Only Port and. South have
yet to appoint their captains
for the season to open on
Saturday . Port will conduct
their election tomorrow night
and South on Wednesday night.
Club leaders appointed are:
Norwood-Oatey (captain),
Holmesby (vice-captain); Sturt
-Tilley, Langley; North
McKay, O'Leary; Torrens-Bob
Hank, Wood; Glenelg-Betson,
Orabb; West-Taylor. vice-cap
tain to be' appointed
Coad and PFaehse. tied ior the
West Vice-captaincy when the
players met last week: Another
ballot will be .held tomorrow,

Llewellyn, Glenelg recruit, is
a Methodist theological student.
He played. at Elliston last
season while serving as a pro
bationary minister.
Now 22; he was in the Royal
Australian Navy for more than
three years. during the war.
Now he is completing his
studies at Wesley College.
Lewellyn plays at centre half
forward. He .has a chance of
inclusion in the senior side
Oatey, Norwood captain, has
told redleg officials he will re
sume training this week and
hopes to play against West
next Monday. He underwent
an operation a fortnight ago
and has made a quick recovery.
B ob. Hank, Torrens captain,
is expected to be fit to play
against North on Saturday It
was reported today Hank re
ceived only a slight leg injury
in Saturday's trial. .
Turner and Green, new
players with Torrens, are off
the active' list because of in
juries Coverlid and Com
mane are other men on the
doubtful list.
Torrens may have no new
players in their side for the
opening game. If Commane
is unable to play, there is a
good chance Quick will be at
full-back. Hodgins seems cer
tain to lead the first ruck. with
Bill Hank as his partner.
Hubert McKenzie, association
Magarey Medallist last season,
is expected to share the roving
with Mehaffey.
Bernie Smith, West and
State half-back last year,
played at centre for Geelong in
the opening Victorian league
matches on Saturday. .He was
ranked among the best players
for the side.
