The Lorenzo Sabine has made an excellent passage from
Sourabaya, notwithstanding having had a succession of
light S.E. and easterly winds since passing Cape Leuwin.
Captain Devine informs us that, on his passing through
Bally Straits three days after leaving Sourabaya, he re-
ceived a telegram to the effect that no vessels were loading
in any port of Java for these colonies.
The barquo William Watson, in beating up the Bay on
Friday evening, grounded off Gellibrand's Point, but suc
ceeded, with the assistance of two tug boats, to get off again
on tho following tide. ,
The City of Sydney left Sydney on Friday, at 7 a.m , and
arrived in Hobson's Bay at 10.30 a.m. yesterday. Strong
8.E. winds and heavy seas were experienced tho first part
?f the passage, and variable wind# and weather the latter
part.
The cargo of the Rialto, from Adelaide, consists of copper
ore, wheat, bran, and flour. It will be published in to
morrow's paptr.
The P. and O. Company's steamship Salsette, with the
English mails to June the 26th, left Point-de-Galle at noon
on the 20th of last month, arrived at King George's Sound
at 1 p.m., on the 5th instant, left at midnight of the same
day. arrived off Cape Ottaway at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Port
Phillip Heads at 2 a.m., and Hobson's Bay at 11 a.m. yes
terday. Strong head winds were experienced the whole
passage, more especially to between King George's Sound
and this port. On her arrival at the Heads it was considered
more advantageous to stand off and on until daylight, as the
night was so dark that it would have been impossible to run
up to the Bay, and had she entered the Heads would have
been compelled to anchor. By her have arrived for the
Acclimatisation Society, one spotted deer; one Indian owl :
one jackall; and six tortoises. Au alligator was on board
but it died during the passage.

A company is about to be introduced for the application
of the patents of Mr Nathan Thompson, an American en
gineer, for boatbuilding by steam machinery. This ma
chinery is suitable for the construction of boat? of every
size and mould, and durability and safety are attained from
the uniformity and perfection of the various fittings, while
tho saving iu time and labor is extraordinary. The inventor
has published testimonials from a large number of the prin
cipal persons in the United Kingdom connected with navi
gation and the working of elaborate construotivo establish
ments, and these are all of the most unequivocal character
as regards the Yalue of the system both in a national and
commercial sense. ' A cutter 30 feet in length can,' it is
said, 14 bo constructed and delivered perfect in every respect
within a few hourB after the order is received for it ;' and
the master shipwright of the Woolwich Dockyard, who was
appointed by the Admiralty to examine and report on the
method, has fully corroborated tho opinions expressed by
other authorities. The revolution which it is 1 kely to create
will, it is believed, be analogous to that effected in other
departments of labor by the sewing machine, and the con
trivances which have of late years multiplied the production
of clocks and 'watches. In our colonics and distant terri
tories, where so much of tho progross ol each settlement
depends upon the facilities for river and coa t navigation,
its advantages are likely also to be of especial importance. —
Jlome Hews, 26th June.

On tbe 8th of June, an iron paddle wheel steamer of 700
tons, named the Prince of Wales, built for the Australian
Steam Navigation Company, was launohed from Mr Lang*
ley'syard, at Deptford. The vessel is of beautiful propor
tions ; and the launch which was witnessed by a large num
ber of persono, was one of great interest, the ship having
to run from the stocks some 40 or 50 feet before she touched
tho water.
On the 25th of May, was launched from the building
yard of Messrs Hall, of Aberdeen, a fine clipper shi.3 of
1019 tons B M. and 902 tons register. She has been pur-
chased by Messrs James Thompson and Co , Billiter court,
London, and is intended for one of their Australian packets.

of her commander, Captain Legoe. She will class class 14
year's A 1 at Lloyd's, and will bo loaded for Adelaide by
Messrs Budden, Bevan, and Tozer, of 2 Jeffrey's square,
