DISTRICT COUNCILS.
ANGASTON, April 13.
Present-Messrs. Clark(Chairman), Linke,
Drescher, Obst. Letter- from Mr. N. Player,
agreeing to take part of road closed at price
fixed. Letter from Commissioner of Crown
Lands, stating clauses 77 to 95 of Act No. 15 of
1869-70 could be brought into operation in
proclaimed districts not necessarily police dis-
tricts, and that it was competent for Council to
appoint their own officers to carry out duties
mentioned therein. Chairman reported that at
adjourned meeting held on previous evenmg the
said clauses had been approved of, and read
copy of memorial to the Governor, preymg that
clauses 77 to 95 of Act No. 15 of 1869-70 should
come into operation in and around Townships of
Angaston and Penrice. Approved of, and sg
nattu-es obtained. Chairman reported that he
had let repairs required near Gooeschs and
■Mining- Cottages. Letter from Crown Lands
Office, stating Bathurst burr had rerently formed
a subject of correspondence with New South
Wales Government, from which it appeared that
tenants of the Crown in that .province were

fidently hoped legislative action would not be
necessary. Copies to be sent to both members
of district, so that they may take steps to con
tinue to urge on Government necessity of at
once taking measures to prevent spread of burr
by sheep travelling from other colonies. Letter

road to be opened, through part of Sections 209
and 210. Council agreed to meet petitioners on
Tuesday and examine. Letter from Mr. A.
Salter relative to alteration of read near Bans.
Clerk reported having measured Gaeschkes
-contract, which was then passed. Repairs at
light's Pass ordered.
BAROSSA WEST, April 8.
Present—All except Mr. Springbett. Tendere
accepted — Mai Bill - road, forming and
metalling, Johann Bitter, £3 per chain; boun
dary-road, breaking ironstone, Johann Engel,
9d. per yard. "Works completed—Carting and
spreading metal between the church and Baker s
(Seek; and clearing water-tables, and filling
ruts, Trial Hill-road. Receipts, £12 8s.
BLACK SPRINGS, April 14.
Present—AIL Letter from Stanley Council,
asking assistance in making ford in boundary
road near Mr. Dowd's. Complied with. Dupli
cate order for new roads duly signed from
Surveyor-General. Receipts, £7 6s. 9d.; pay

CLARENDON, April 15.
Present—Messrs. Maurau (Chairman) Kernot.
Haines, Spencer, Norris. Council sat as Com
missioners of Roads, and made an order that
certain roads should be closed and sold; that
survey through. Sections 777_ and 778 be with
drawn, and that whole Council meet- as a depu
tation to inspect it preparatory to a fresh survey.
Memorial from ratepayers of Coromandel Valley,
calling attention to bad state of road on Aek
land's Hill; to be attended to. Works ordered
—Cutting portion of road and metalling on
Cherry Gardens Range-road, near Mr. Whyte's;
Windibanks Hill-road to be repaired. Tenders
accepted—Thos. Ward, forming and metalling
on Black-road, £3 9s. 6d. per chain; Philip
LeMeister, 50 yards 3-inch metal at Cherry
Gardens, 2s. 6d. per yard. Payments, £37 13s,
CRAFERS, April 11.

opposite his place. To stand over till funds are

GILBERT, April 8.
Present — Chairman, Messrs. Elliott and
Gluyas. Chairman reported that bridge over
Gilbert, Riverton, had been duly opened on
6th instant, having been finished satisfactorily
by contractor. Clerk instructed on and after
May 1 to receive rates in cash only owing to
Bank regulations respecting discount on
cheques. Receipts, £39 4s. 3d.; payments,

HAMILTON, APRIL 13.

worthy, and R. & E. Haines. Tenders accepted

LEFEVRE'S PENINSULA, April 15.

Mead, J. N. Wills, H. C. Fletcher. The procla
mation declaring the district having been read,
Mr. J. N. Wills was elected Ghairman. Mr. F.
EL -Six was appointed Clerk. Clerk to invite
tenders for maps of the district and for assess
merit. Application to be made to Trustees of
Lefevre's ■ Peninsula. School for permission to
hold Council meetings in the schoolroom. Other
business postponed until Monday, April 22.
MOUNT BARKER, April 15.

MUNNO PARA WIST, April 15.
Present—All butCr. Riggs. Messrs. P. Rowe
and J. Bateup, as deputation from Angle Vale
School Committee, laid before Council the
minutes of their last meeting, and wished to be
informed if Council approved of site chosen for
building schoolroom on au aero of ground gfroq
by Mr. B. Heaslip, portion 4130. Council
approved, and considered it necessary to have a
schoolroom built, there not being one within a
considerable "distance of that locality. Memo
randum to that effect signed by Chairman and '
Councillors present. Memorial from ratepayers
in Bassett Town, asking to have'road on Station
terrace metalled. Road to be inspected and
cost ascertained before, and work done if there
are sufficient funds. Payments, £68 12s. 6d.;
receipts, £3910s.
NAIRNE, April 15.
Present—Messrs. Sleggett, Tilbrook, Sanders,
Radford, Chapman. Letter from D. Woodgate, .
surveyor, respecting .proposed new line of road
through Baum's section. Council in company
with .Surveyor inspected the line. Tender
accepted—J. Chambers, forming and gravelling
road in Hay "Valley, £1 per chain. Resolved,
that Nairne Pound be closed. Receipts, £24
19s.; payments, £91 2s. 6d.
NOARLUNGA, April 15.
Present- Messrs. Beyer (Chairman), Anderson,
Canham, Kanaley, Pedler. Petition to Parlia-
ment for reconstruction of bridge near Port
Noarlunga signed by Council. Letter from Mr.
John Looney, declining to take less than £50
and an old road for proposed new road through
Sections 59 and 60. To be acknowledged, and a
suggestion made to refer claim to arbitration.
Mr. Hall wrote, resigning his office as teacher of
Noarlunga School, and asking for allowance for
improvements to school premises. Mr. John
Osborne also wrote, applying for appointment as
teacher. Mr. Hall's resignation accepted.
Question of compensation and appointment of
new teacher deferred. Receipts, £37 16s.;
payments, £65 4s. 4d.
ONKAPARINGA, April 13.
Present—All. Letters received—From Mr.
Darling, surveyor, in reference to deviations,
&c.; from Rev. J. Macbean, requesting repairs
on road near Inverbrackie—to be attended to;
from Mr. Lerimer, calling attention to narrow
and dangerous state of road near Sulivan's—road
to be mended when funds will admit; from Mr.
Fuerhard, in re "piece of land for road through
his section—Mr. Fuerhard to be informed that
Council will not give more than £20 for land
required, and are quite prepared to submit the
matter to valuation. Mr. R. Drummond
requested that road between Sections 4033 and
5018 near Oakbank be opened forthwith. Clerk

Council, stating they would cause an examina
tion of proposed deviation through French's
land at an early date. Clerk reported writing
to Mr. 6. Davenport, respecting proposed new
road through Blocks 6 and 10, Section 950, but
had no reply yet. Payments, £6 13s. 6d.
WALKERVELLE, A putt, 15.
Present—AIL Chairman put before Council
a requisition signed by 19 ratepayers, requesting
him to call a meeting to consider the Council's
action in spending rates out of the district.
Referred to Clerk to ascertain earliest possible
time when a valid meeting can be held.
From Mr. Conrad explaining matter re
specting slaughterhouse and driving wild
cattle. licence was granted. Application from
Mr. Hughes for 50 loads of earth in return for
50 loads of stone. Granted. Mr. B. Darling
offered Council a lot of small stone suitable for
roads. To be considered at some future time.
