SOUTHS V. STURTS.
These teams played on the large oval
on Saturday. Up to half-time Sturts
were two points in the lead. but. after
the long spell they only scored one
more point to the finish. The Sturts
played a magnificent game after the
second term, outclassing their opponents
in every department. The
Souths were without the services of
Geo. Wallace, the champion rover of the
State which made a big difference to
his team, but still diey could not have
won. Most conspicuous players for
Sturts were Geo. Sharp (best on
ground), Renfrey, Dunn, Cumberland,
Matson, Honey bone, and BuslieLl, while
Tredrea, Keane, Adcock. and Me Donga15
worked hard to avoid defeat. Mr.
Harold Reynolds umpired satisfactorily.

NOTES. .
Tommy McKenzie is in magnificent
form, and played wonderfully well on
Saturday for Torrens.
Geddes and Filsel] played well together.
but. both were too rough at
; times.
A good match was played last Wednesday
on the Adelaide Oval between
Christian Brothers' College and St
Peters', the former winning easily.
Much interest was taken in this match.
Mr. Dollman, of the league, umpired.
On the previous Tuesday Christian
Brothers' College beat Prince Alfred
College.
A. Limb, playing for Sturt, notched
five goals in good style.
M. Donaghy, captain of the Ports, is
still standing down. It will be remembered
that he hurt his hip playing
against Sturt; but he is now progressing
as well as can be expected.
A very regrettable incident occurred
at Hindmarsh lasSt Saturday after the
Norwood-Torrens match. Mr. Ottey
(the umpire) was at the conclusion of
the game molested by youths who gave
him rather a rough time. Mr. Dollman,
one of the boundary umpires, went to
his assistance, but was also roughly
treated.
Incidents like this should be
stopped.
Great
interest is being
manifested,
in the college match this season. St.
Peters seem to be favorites; but the
P.A.C. boys are also confident of success.
The colleges will choose an um-
(llL!«-
pil e from tiie league, if permitted, which
.sliould add to the interest of the game.
Next Saturday's matches are set down
as follows.—
Adelaide Oval—Norths v. Norwood.
Port Oval—Ports v. Torrens.
Jubilee Oval—W. Adelaide v. Souths.
Sturts arc i»oin<>- to (.lawler.
At the .Jubilee Oval to-day a football
match will happen between H.M.A.S.
Protector and some members of . the
Police Force. The match will be i
aid of charity—most of the proceeds to
go to the poor children of ' Port' Pirie
The ground is being lent for the occasion.
and "The Critic" congratulates all
those who are helping in the scheme and
wishes the promoters every success.
May they have the pleasure of seeing a
record crowd pass through the turnstiles.
One wonders why some of our
amusement providers don't take a hand
in giving something to charity—such as
the rinks. Surely it would not break
them to put an evening or afternoon off
for a good cause. But then, perhaps the
proprietors of the rinks believe charity
begins at home; or perhaps roller rinks
don't pay. For, if we remember rightly,
the old ice rink, in Hindiev-street, did
a lot for charity.
