The Appendreena Amateur Dramatic
Club are giving a performance of
"John Glayde's Honor" at the Walkerville.
Hall on Saturday, June 18.
Miss May Edmunds has returned
from Sydney, and is staying with her
sister, Mrs. T. A. Caterer, of College
Park."
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Hawker have
taken a house at Kent Town for the
winter months. Miss S. Hawker is
staying with them at present.

Miss liussell, who has been in Adelaide,
for some, time oil a visit to Lady

Mrs. Theodore Bruce has gone to

The marriage of Miss Gerta Hom-
burg. daughter of Judge Homburg, to
Mr. Brewster Jones, will be celebrated
very quietly on Saturday .next at the

The building committee of the public
hall, Klemzig. have issued invitations
for the laying . of the corner
stone on Saturday, June IS. Ills Excellency

Bosanquet) will perform the ceremony.
Miss. Amand Wright, of Gleneig, has
just returned from Melbourne, where
she lias been for some weeks visiting.
The Iiev. and Mrs. Lumsdon, of Glenelg,
returned last week after spending
an enjoyable holiday in Melbourne.
Mr. and Mrs. Gill Williams are enjoying
a delightful holiday abroad.
They have just left Amsterdam,
thence to Berlin, Brussels, and Bruges.
On August 6 they leave by the Lusitania
for America en route for Adelaide.
There was a large attendance at
the Lyric Club on Wednesday evening
last, when an interesting programme
\vas' carried out. Miss Boyce played
one of Chopin's works for an overture.
Miss Ivy Phillips, the possessor
of a beautiful contralto voice, sang
with great expression "A Summer
Night" (Goring Thomas) and "We'll
Meet Again." Miss Ethel Ive sang
two pretty bracketed numbers and
"The Enchantress" (Hatton). Mrs,
Edward Reeves .recited "A. Reverie"
(Owen Meredith) with vocal interlude
by Mr,. Wanborough Fisher, and Mi.
Reeves was excellent in his numbers,
a problem story ("The Lady or th.^
Tiger") and "King Robert of Sicily."
In each case the performers had to
respond with encores. The pro
gramme concluded with a powerful
one-act drama, "The Octopus," by
Phillip Oppenhiem, in which the characters
were 'sustained by Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Reeves and Mr. T. Hubbard.

A gay and festive crowd assembled
at the Lyric Club last Wednesday afternoon.
The occasion was an "at
home" given by Miss Maud Little in
honor of her sister (Mrs. J. J. Lawlie)
before her return to Mount Gambier.
The rooms were charmingly decorated,
and the daintiest of afternoon
teas was served: During the afternoon
the guests were called upon
to exercise their ingenuity in a competition
in which the answers to a
heterogeneous collection of questions
were all to be found in the word
"advantageous." The dwellers in the
City of Culture lived up to their reputation,
and if they did not all command
success they doubtless deserved
it. As a relaxation from the strenuous
mental efforts of the assembled
multitude, Miss Marjorie Valentine
contributed a "concourse of sweet
sounds" from Schumann and Chopin,
and Miss Muriel Parsons sang very
sweetly the dainty "Lullaby" composed
by-Marion. Alsop of Melbourne,

Miss Coralie Duff gave an afternoon
tea, a farewell for her aunt, Miss Gebhardt,
who is to be married to-morrow

-to Mr. George Dempster. It was to
have been tennis, but the weather prevented
outdoor sport. Miss Duff was
prettily gowned in cream lace veiling
silk. Among those present were: Mrs.
and Miss Duff, Miss Gebhardt, Miss
Sabine. Mrs. H. Kitlier, Mrs. J. Sangster,
Mrs. Gebhardt, the Misses Duncan, Miss
Proctor. Miss Clare, and several others.
The ball in aid of the Home for Incurables
will take place in the Unley
Town Hall on Thursday evening, July
7. The Mayor and Mayoress of Unley
(Mr. and Mrs. Chinner) held a pleasant
little informal meeting to arrange matters.
The committee includes Mesdames
Hewitt. Fuller, A. Lewis, E.
Lewis. W. Wedler, W. Dollman, Coombs,
and the Misses Kelsh, Coombs, Crawley,
and Bannigan. Tickets, 3/6 single
and 6/ double.
Miss Florence Kelly and several
other ladies gave a delightful "farewell
evening" to Mrs. A. J. McLachlan,
who leaves Largs Bay shortly. The entertainment
took the form of a dance
held at the residence of Mr. Henry
Kelly, the Esplanade, Semaphore, on
Thursday evening, June 2. The whole
house was charmingly decorated and
bridge played in the drawing room.
The ballroom looked pretty with
trails of asparagus fern and pink
camellias. The "excellent music was
supplied by Miss Campbell. The supper
table was artistically arranged
with pink heath. Miss Florence Kelly
was becomingly gowned in saxe blue
charmeuse with silver sequined trimming
upon the berthe. Mrs. A. J.
McLachlan wore charming toilette of
pale grey silk ornamented with
Roman embroidery. Mrs. P. Bollen
wore elegant cream glace. Mrs. C.
Neill was in smart black silk costume
with white lace scarf. Mrs. Langsford
in white silk and lace. Miss
Lovely, pale blue chiffon taffeta, with
cream lace upon the bodice. Miss
Annie Lovely, turquoise blue char-

meuse.
Miss Ilelene Billiet, scarlet

sequined net veiling- glace; black bowworn
in the hair. Miss Dunn in cream
accordeon-pleated silk, silver sequined
panel. Miss F. Elkan wore soft silver
arey silk. Miss Nora Bayly becomingblack

smart black chiffon taffeta, the decolletage
